When we go through tough times it's important to take time to express our raw emotions; pain fear, anger and grief. All of the raw emotion that you feel in life is reflected in the Bible in a form of writing called a "lament." "Biblical lament can offer us hope in a way that connects us with God in an intimate manner." [Helping Youth Grieve, pg. 10] Jesus even cried out a lament while he was dying on the cross... "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
DOODLE PRAYER FOR YOUTH
So how can we put our grief and pain into words? In Sketches of Prayer on page 2, try the artistic expression of Word Collage. Grab some paper, markers, pen or pencil and spend some quiet time with God. Begin to meditate on the question: "What am I confused by, frustrated by or down about lately?" As ideas, words, phrases, or pictures come to you, grab the markers and begin doodling. Let the words flow, be honest and be creative!
